Check Engine Light
If your check engine light is on, don’t ignore it! The “Check Engine”, or “Service Engine Soon” light is a signal from the computer in your car’s engine, that something is wrong. As part of your engine’s onboard diagnostics system (OBD), sensors are placed throughout your vehicle to monitor things like engine speed, fuel mixture, and ignition timing. While the “check engine” light can mean many different things, from a loose gas cap to a seriously misfiring engine, make sure to get it checked out as soon as possible. In addition to triggering the light, the computer stores a “trouble code” that identifies the source of the problem, and when you bring your car in for service, this code will help diagnose the problem. Ignore the warning, and you could cause other components to fail – and possibly lead to more expensive repairs And if the indicator is flashing, you have a more serious problem. And you should pull over and stop driving. And from an environmental point of view, this can also be a sign that your car is getting poor fuel economy and emitting higher levels of pollutants.
